The American Academy in Berlin is an independent, privately funded, non-profit institution that promotes transatlantic relations between the United States and Germany through continuous and sustained exchange and dialogue. Our work focuses on awarding grants to American experts in the humanities, social sciences, arts, business and politics.

The fellows live and work for one semester in the Hans Arnhold Center at Wannsee. In addition, the Academy invites American experts and opinion leaders to Berlin for short-term visits. 

These Distinguished Visitors exchange information on current topics in the transatlantic context with the interested public and colleagues as part of individually tailored visit programs. 

In 2013, the Richard C. Holbrooke Forum for the Study of Diplomacy and Governance was also founded, which brings together academics, politicians and business representatives to develop solutions to challenges in international politics in a workshop format. 

The American Academy organizes an extensive intercultural and interdisciplinary program of events with over 100 events per year in the fields of politics, business, law, humanities, art, literature and music and has built up a far-reaching and sustainable network in the USA and Germany since its foundation in 1994.

To strengthen our program team, we are looking for a full-time (40 h) person to start as soon as possible

Your tasks:

Planning, implementation and follow-up of the stays of short-term visitors and scholarship holders

Event organisation, conception and follow-up

Creation of individual subject-specific visit programs

Creation of invitation lists, speaking points and background research

Participation in the conception and coordination of the activities of the Richard C. Holbrooke program including the preparation, implementation and follow-up of workshops

Preparation of information for management and members of the Board of Trustees

Support in budget creation and maintenance

Coordination with external contacts, including contract coordination and implementation

Assisting in the preparation of applications and reports for donors

Participation in the presentation of the events in Academy publications as well as for the website and the newsletter

Support for committee work

database maintenance

Our requirements:

Successfully completed university studies (B.A.)

First work experience

Excellent organizational skills with a precise way of working

Experience with events (onsite, digital and hybrid)

Excellent computer skills (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Adobe Acrobat) and experience with databases

Very good written and oral expression

Very good knowledge of English and German, both spoken and written

Good general education

Professional, confident demeanor, intercultural competence

Research, analysis and transfer skills

Quick grasp

High resilience and ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously and set priorities independently

Ability to work in a team, service orientation and hands-on mentality
